To attract and keep butterflies in your garden, you need both host plants and nectar plants. Female butterflies lay their eggs on species-specific host plants that provide food, in the form of leaves, for their caterpillars. Flowering plants offer adult butterflies energy with sugary nectar. As an educator, I enjoy teaching about butterflies in public and private schools, preschools and daycares, and to scout troops, garden clubs and others.
