I’m Suzanne, the Butterfly Lady

Thanks for Visiting!

Butterflies bring color, motion and life to our planet. I absolutely adore them. So glad you’ve dropped by to share the joy and fun of butterflies with me. Here’s what you’ll find:

I’ve listed favorite online butterfly resources on the Education page. Whether you teach school, home school your own children, or just want to explore the world of butterflies, you’ll be off to a great start.

To attract and keep butterflies in your garden, you need both host plants and nectar plants. Female butterflies lay their eggs on species-specific host plants that provide food, in the form of leaves, for their caterpillars. Flowering plants offer adult butterflies energy with sugary nectar. The Gardening section features top-ten lists of my favorite butterfly host and nectar plants, along with other butterfly gardening advice.

As an educator, I enjoy teaching about butterflies in public and private schools, preschools and daycares, and to scout troops, garden clubs and others. To demonstrate the amazing butterfly life cycle in a memorable way, I bring live butterfly eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises and adults to the presentations. To book a visit from Butterfly Lady, find details on the Presentations page. I hope to be in your classroom soon!

Butterfly Farm Tours new this year!
For the ultimate butterfly experience, come tour my working butterfly farm! It’s the only one in North Carolina’s Triangle. Spend time in the Butterfly House where you will feed and interact with dozens of butterflies, perhaps closer than you ever have before. The experience is delightful and totally hands-on. Yes! It’s OK to touch the butterflies and I'll teach you how to wrangle them the gentle, proper way.

The hour-long Butterfly Farm Tour also includes a short presentation on butterfly science and a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at commercial butterfly production. See complete details and purchase your tickets for the 2012 Butterfly Farm Tour Season at the Farm Tours page.

For more butterfly fun, see our delightful photo essays in the butterfly Gallery, read about butterfly displays and zoos around the world in the Exhibits section, and order butterfly caterpillars, chrysalises and milkweed seeds with FREE shipping in the Marketplace for up-close butterfly fun.

Enjoy the Butterflies!
